Following a successful diversion into winter bowling with the Raiders, Spring was soon upon us as was the start of the softball season. It was business as usual for the Pirates with Neil back as captain, Sohan as treasurer, Chris as tournament organiser and Alice as social secretary. Unusually there were no departures from the team this time and instead we welcomed Fiona Stinson and Marines Piney into the team, giving us a roster of 9 girls!
We started the season with an impressive win over our friendly rivals the Raiders only to be beaten (again) by the mighty Richmond Swingers. In typical Pirate fashion we bounced back with victories against the Tornadoes, Kamikazes and Hawks only to then lose against the Heat, Raiders and Swingers (again) only this time in an 8 innings nail biter. That allowed the Swingers to take pole position in the league but we were still able to achieve second until we lost against the Loan Wolves through dodgy umpires and to the Kamikazes who brought an entire ringer team to play.
Fortunately we were able to achieve a respectable 3rd position in the league following back to back victories against Hampstead Heat and then the Hawks.
Unfortunately this victory relegated the Hawks along with the Moanadoes though no one was too concerned about seeing the back of them.
