It seems only yesterday that people were commented how time how flown and the softball season was about to start of with the Firstball tournament. Four months and 13 league games later the season has almost come to an end with only one league game left to play, Lastball and of course the big one- Festiball at Edinburgh.
Despite a stupidly early start time of 8.30am for Lastball the Pirates got off to a flying start with a victory against their old foe- The Voodoos. 2 hours later our winning ways continued with another easy victory against the former whipping boys of Minors 3- the Russell Squares.
Easy enough so far and our winning streak continued with a 12-7 win against Raiders Green (revenge for our recent loss) to put us into tied first place with the Base Jumpers, who just happened to be our next opponent. It looked as if we were going to pull off a shock victory as we led going into the last innings only for them to beat us by one run. That defeat left us to play The Mob in the semi final who were of course itching for revenge after our shock win in the league. It looked as if they had us on the ropes until a V-bomb brought in 3 RBI and turned the game around, helping us to win 11-10 and once again face the Base Jumpers for the final.
Alas the 8.30 start took it’s toll on us as we were beaten in the 5th innings 14-2 but our heads were held high with the knowledge that will had played well all day, taken second place and had a laugh in the process.
Roll on Edinburgh!
