May 7th 2014- Parrots vs Sombreros

We had some great support from the Pirates with Shaz playing at catch as well as development coach, Paul captaining, Bola boom boxing and Chris scoring and 3rd base coaching as well as Steph, who was as sick as a parrot, but still came down to cheerlead with her injured quad.

In a tricky selection policy, Paul and Tony were on the bench with 6 and 6 played. We started off in the he field and we’re straight on it conceding no runs whilst chalking up 8 runs in our first innings. Ben led the way with a massive homer, followed by base hits from Donna, Neil and Baldeep. The middle order clicked and after two innings the score read 20-2.

The Parrots showed a great mix of great enthusiastic defence and aggressive base running to further pile misery on the hastily arranged Sombreros line up. Paul took a brilliant catch in right centre when he came on, Chiemi and Mia looked excellent at 3rd whilst Baldeep patrolled 2nd with experience. Gerard looked at ease at short stop whilst AJ was solid as a rock at 1st and took home the defensive award for the first ever parrot double play. Neil was solid on the mound, worked the counts and got half a dozen strikeouts. Carter provided moments of light relief in the outfield as well as outside the Albany pub where he got barred!

After 5 innings the match was called as we had an unassailable lead. The stats were impressive, 6 homers, 43 at bats with 30 hits or walks. Every player got at least one base hit too.

MVP voting was tied at 6 each, Matt for his two home runs, and Ben for his loud mouth. After a traditional drink off, Ben took the title after Matt appeared to concede with a 15 km bike ride ahead of him.

A great performance and superb start to the PSC season
